Consortium seeks to scale artificial intelligence

AIFour diverse companies – Crossbar, Gyrfalcon, mtes Neural Networks and Robosensing –have joined forces in a consortium called SCAiLE for the development and commercialization of artificial intelligence platforms.

Through its four founding members the organization will combine acceleration hardware, resistive memory (ReRAM) and optimized neural networks to create ready-made, power-efficient solutions with unsupervised learning and event recognition capability.

The consortium foresees that the growth of IoT systems with thousands of remote edge devices – such sensor-equipped cameras – will create a torrent of unstructured information that cannot be handled effectively by classification alone.

SCAiLE stands for SCalable AI for Learning at the Edge and the consortium is working with the Japanese authorities to review opportunities for the 2020 Olympics, including video-based event detection and response capability.

Online tool tests organisations’ AI maturity

Artificial IntelligenceArtificial intelligence (AI) is expected to increase automation and boost productivity. However, organisations should first understand their own readiness for taking advantage of AI. VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd (VTT) has developed an online tool that organisations can use to test their AI maturity.

The tool gives organisations a quick and easy way to find out how ready they are to harness the power of artificial intelligence. VTT’s online tool is available for all organisations, free of charge, at https://ai.digimaturity.vtt.fi/. With the tool, organisations can test their AI maturity in six dimensions, including e.g. strategy and management, competences and cooperation, and technology.
